Acute Food Insecurity Map

The Acute Food Insecurity visualization is a map with timeline that displays assessed and projected food security outcomes.

Creating an Acute Food Insecurity Map

Use the following guidelines to create and modify an Acute Food Insecurity Map.

1. Select primary parameters

Collection date: A collection date is used to prevent the visualization from updating when new data is published every month. The collection date corresponds to the first day of the month that begins the projection period. For example, selecting a collection date of October 1, 2025 will show data through the October 2025 Food Security Outlook projection period.

Choose from one of the following options:

Select a country: Select the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 two letter code to build a visualization for a country.

Select a geographic group: Select the FEWS NET country group code to build a visualization for a region. A list of country group codes can be pulled from the FEWS NET API.

Click Generate to view the chart.

2. Select filters

Selecting filters is optional. Choose from any of the following options:

  • Start date: Data before this date will not be shown.

  • Select one of more scenarios for the static images: Adds a parameter to the visualization URL to include specific scenarios in the autogenerated PDF when building a report in the CMS. If not selected, static images of all available scenarios will be show in the PDF.

Click Update chart to apply the filters.

Saving the visualization

After generating the Acute Food Insecurity Map, you can save it to your account for future reference using the Save visualization button in the upper right side of the page. Enter a Title and Description in the popup and click Save visualization. You can access saved visualizations from the Visualizations tab in the top header.
