The latest release features a major expansion to the FEWS NET Data Explorer: a new interface for browsing Data Sources and accessing qualitative and unstructured data. You can use the Data Sources section to access information and files for a Data Source.
You’ll find all the familiar tools to search, preview, and export analysis-ready data in the Explore data section. The restructured Explore data sidebar and links to access the Data Source detail page allow you to move seamlessly between the two interfaces.
We’ve also added the latest population and demography estimates from LandScan and WorldPop for spatial data extracts. Plus, the updated built-in tour and FDE Knowledge Base are available to guide you through the latest updates.
Data Sources
The Data Sources section lets you search for and view the Data Collections and files associated with a Data Source. This allows you to discover a wider range of data catalogued by FEWS NET beyond analysis-ready data.
The data available in this section will continue to grow as we add files containing supporting documentation and data in non-standard formats over the coming months.
Search Data Sources
You can search for Data Sources that are relevant to your needs by selecting topics from the sidebar and using the keyword, Country, Source Organization, and File Format filters.
In your search results, you’ll see summary information about each Data Source. If analysis-ready data is available, you can use the Explore Data link to preview and export the data in the Explore data section. You’ll also see any file types available for the Data Source.
Data Source detail page
To view more details about a Data Source, click on its name from the list of search results.
The Data Source detail page provides additional information about the Data Source and its Data Collections. The Data Collections under a given Data Source may contain Data Points and/or files.
You’ll find links to open analysis-ready data in the Explore data section, as well as access any files.
Explore data
The Explore data section offers the same search, customization, and export options as before, with an updated sidebar and links to access a Data Source’s detail page.
Explore data sidebar
The Explore data sidebar now has a nested list of topics. Click to expand the topic and select from the list.
Access Data Sources from Explore data
There are two ways to access details about a Data Source when working in the Explore data section:
-
From the Data Series table, click on the name of the Data Source from the Data Source column.
-
While previewing data, select the Metadata tab and click on the title of the Data Source.
2024 LandScan and WorldPop data
The 2024 population estimates from LandScan and 2024 demography estimates from WorldPop are now the default when extracting spatial data.
While previewing spatial data in the Explore data section, you can select to include population and demography estimates in your extract from the Customize menu. Learn more about customization options for spatial data.
