Market Prices

Markets

A market represents a geographic point where market prices are collected.

Markets contain the following fields:

  • Code: This field should include a unique identifier for the market, such as the FNID.

  • Name: The name of the market in all available languages.

  • Aliases: A list of alternate names for the market.

  • Country: The country in which the market resides.

  • Description: Any extra information or detail that is relevant about the market.

Market prices

This includes prices gathered in Form 3 and stored on the BSS Prices worksheet. These prices are not automatically ingested from the BSS.

Market prices contain the following fields:

  • Community or village: The community or village where this market price was collected.

  • Product: The product associated with the price.

  • Currency: The currency of the reported price.

  • Market: The market where the price was observed.

  • Description: Any extra information or relevant detail about the product or price.

  • Low price: The lowest recorded price.

  • Low price start day: The numeric day of the year when the lowest price starts. The system will automatically convert the first day of the start month in the BSS to a day of the year.

  • Low price end day: The numeric day of the year when the lowest price ends. The system will automatically convert the last day of the end month in the BSS to a day of the year.

  • High price: The highest recorded price.

  • High price start day:The numeric day of the year when the highest prices starts.

  • High price end day: The numeric day of the year when the highest price ends.

  • Unit of measure: The unit of measure the product is reported in for price reasons. For example, if a product is $3 per liter, this field would contain liter.

Note that price start and end dates are stored in days, even though the BSS records this information in months. The system automatically converts months into a numeric day of the year by using the first day in a start month and the last day in an end month. This is a measure taken to allow for more granular data collection in the future iterations of collection tools.
