February 2026 Release Notes

The following list of features, updates, and bug fixes are included in the latest Sprint 25.12 release to the FEWS NET Data Platform.

New features

Create an endpoint for spatial data that accepts a lat/long or admin name and returns the result of a lookup (DATA-4863)

The /geographicunit endpoint accepts the following additional filters:

  • latlon : records for all shapes that intersect the specified comma-delimited latitude and longitude coordinates. 

  • search: records matching an administrative unit name. 

  • is_admin_unit : records for administrative unit types only when true, and non-administrative units when false. 

  • as_of_date : records that were current at a given date, specified in YYYY-MM-DD format. The value ?as_of_date=today is also accepted.

Implement data ingestion pipeline for Zimbabwe Supermarket Market Prices USD Kobo form (DATA-4985)

A new data pipeline was implemented to ingest data from the Zimbabwe Supermarket Market Prices Kobo form into FDW.

Updates

Add crop_level admin names to crop production data extracts (DATA-4801)

Extracts from the /cropproductionfacts API endpoint now include names for all associated administrative and crop levels for a given Geographic Unit.

Visualization updates

Change Data Inventory Dashboard to filter by Topic (DATA-4908)

The Data Inventory Dashboard now defaults to disaggregation by Topic rather than domain, and switches to Document Type once a Topic filter is selected.

Relevant links to pages from visualizations open in the current tab rather than a new tab, with the ability to right/CTRL-click to see the option to open the link in a new tab

FDW data management

Add taggit to Source Organization (DATA-4955)

Users with specified permissions can add and edit tags for Source Organizations in FDW.

FSC mapping for Urban Areas (DATA-4983)

Food Insecurity Classification data can be uploaded under a new Geographic Unit Type fsc_urban (FSC Urban Area) in FDW when the food security situation is different to the surrounding area, and the drivers of food insecurity may differ to those in the surrounding livelihood zone. This data can also be mapped on visualizations.

Create field on Feature model to store H3 and S2 cell IDs (DATA-5023)

FDW can store H3 and S2 cell IDs for spatial data and displays them on the feature detail page.

FDE Updates

Updates to the FEWS NET Data Explorer (FDE) were completed under the following tickets:

  • Several changes were made to the Data Explorer main navigation (DATA-4768), including:

    • A new Home tab provides a direct path to return to the home page at any time.

    • A Help tab pulls provides quick access to the built-in tour, the FDE knowledge base, and the FEWS NET Helpdesk.

    • An Account tab opens user profile details.

    • The right hand side navigation options reconfigure into a dropdown menu on compact screens.

  • The Account tab displays the username and option to reset or create a password, as well as log out (DATA-4900)

  • A new placeholder screen for Explore data directs the user to make a selection from the topic sidebar (DATA-4867)

  • Links within FDE now open within the current browser tab by default, with the option to right or CTRL click to access the option to open the link in a new tab or window (DATA-4914).

Bugs

Adding inline Source Document to Source Organization pops up 500 error (DATA-4977)

Adding a Source Document from the Source Organization change screen in FDW resulted in a 500 error because the required Usage Policy field was not shown. Now, an inline Source Document can be created with a Usage Policy.

FDW dashboard loading issues

  • The Data Inventory Dashboard was not loading promptly due to caching issues. The schedule to refresh the cache has been adjusted to improve load times (DATA-4907).

  • Some charts in the Plotly dashboards were constantly increasing their height. The charts now display as expected (DATA-5063).

FDE bugs

The following bug fixes were released to FDE:

  • Navigating to the Crop topic page from a URL rather than the sidebar resulted in certain components failing to render, such as the Selected filters drawer and Reset search button. Now, these components load as expected when using a URL (DATA-4976).

  • Corrected issues with the Start and End Date filter and the inclusion of current data for the Humanitarian Food Assistance topic page (DATA-4853).

  • Corrected the behavior of the visualization builder to require a valid selection of primary parameters before updating the visualization and the API URL (DATA-4304).
