The filters used in the Explore Data pages are used as follows:

Best available: This option is selected by default and shows the current situation for all periods. Only the most recent near and medium term projections will be included. Selecting All shows all scenarios for all periods, including near and medium term projections from past periods.

Border point: Filters by the border point where the trade was observed. This filter aggregates items into multi-level lists. Selecting the higher-level item in the list will automatically select all the lower-level items in the list. Note: The International category in this filter contains countries not currently monitored by FEWS NET.

Data Source Document: Filters by the name of the document used as the primary source of information or data.

Annual Peak Food Assistance Needs: Includes projections in each monitored country for the total population that would likely face Crisis (IPC Phase 3) or worse acute food insecurity in the absence of any emergency food assistance, during its projected period of highest need, which typically occurs during a country's lean season.

Food Assistance Outlook Brief: Summarizes FEWS NET's projection of the population in need of urgent food assistance and the severity of anticipated acute food insecurity (the highest IPC area-level classification) in each FEWS NET-monitored country seven months into the future.

Data Series status: Filters data series by active or inactive status. Inactive Data Series have been marked by a data manager as no longer receiving new data. This may be because a change in the way the data is being collected (such as a new source or change in units) warranted starting a new Data Series, or because the data is no longer being collected.

Data usage policy: Filters by the data usage policy assigned to the Data Series.

Dates: Filters data series by the period dates of all data points within the series. All data series with at least one data point that has a period date inside the date range will be displayed.

Document type: Filters by the type of data, such as Crop Reporting Administrative Unit boundaries, Crop Reporting Administrative Unit definitions, Food Security Classification units, Livelihood Zone boundaries, etc.

Exchange Rate Type: Filters by the type of exchange rate (Government, Interbank, Secondary markets, or auctions).

Flow type: Filters by the flow type of the trade, i.e., Export, Import, Re-export, or Transit.

From Currency: Filters by the “from” currency in an exchange rate (used as the numerator).

Geographic area: Filters by location of the data. This filter aggregates items into multi-level lists (e.g., Admin 1 units are aggregated into countries, which are aggregated into regions). Selecting the higher-level item in the list will automatically select all the lower-level items in the list. For some topics you must select one or more geographic areas before choosing additional filters. Note: The International category in this filter contains countries not currently monitored by FEWS NET.

Indicator: Filters by a metric of interest and allows for meaningful comparisons over time.

Crop: The indicator options for Crops are area harvested, area planted, quantity produced, and yield.

Nutrition: The indicator options for Nutrition include options such as Anemia among pregnant women % and Crude Mortality Rate.

Population: The indicator options for Population include options such as Number of households and Population estimate.

Responses: The indicator options for Responses include options such as Total operation cost and number of beneficiaries.

Market: Filters by the name of the actual market or the name of the town or city where the market is located. This filter aggregates items into a multi-level list (e.g., cities and markets are aggregated into countries, which are aggregated into regions). Selecting the higher-level item in the list will automatically select all the lower-level items in the list. Note: The International category in this filter contains countries not currently monitored by FEWS NET.

Product: Filters by commodity or service, classified using a modified FEWS NET version of the UN CPC v2. This filter aggregates items into a multi-level list. Selecting the higher-level item in the list will automatically select all the lower-level items in the list.

Price Type: Filters by the point in the marketing system where prices are reported from (assembly, export, producer, retail, spot, wage, and/or wholesale).

Product: Filters by commodity or service, classified using a modified FEWS NET version of the UN CPC v2. This filter aggregates items into multi-level lists. Selecting the higher-level item in the list will automatically select all the lower-level items in the list.

Product Source: Filters by the original source of the product (local, export, or import).

Reporting country: Filters by the country where the trade was observed.

Results Valid on Date: Filters all geographic unit set versions valid on the selected date (includes all versions with a start date on or before the selected date, and either no version end date or an end date on or after the selected date).

Scale: Filters by the food security classification scale used, e.g., Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) scale versions 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1.

Scenario: Filters by the name of the scenario, i.e., Current Situation, Near Term Projection, or Medium Term Projection.

Start date and End date: Filters Data Series by the period dates of all Data Points within the series. All Data Series with at least one Data Point that has a period date inside the date range will be displayed.

To Currency: Filters by the “to” currency in an exchange rate (used as the denominator).

Trade destination: Filters by the destination country of the trade flow, or where the product is destined to.

Trade source: Filters by the country where the product originated.

Trade type: Filters by the type of trade, i.e., Formal or Informal.

Unit Type: Filters by type of geographic unit, such as:

Admin: Official government administrative units (Province, District, County, etc.)

FSC Units: Food Security Classification units (e.g., Livelihood Zones)

Other Units: Includes border points, markets, IDP camps, crop production reporting regions, etc.
