March 2024: Optimizing for Ease of Use
The biggest changes you’ll see in the latest release to the FEWS NET Data Explorer (FDE) are short descriptions in the header of the domain pages, and updates to the filters in the Spatial domain. We've also resolved a couple of bugs that were affecting the preview of selected data series and the functionality of the date picker used in several filters.
Watch our latest how to video for practical tips on optimizing FDE for smaller screens, such as laptops, by collapsing sidebars and viewing your charts in full screen.
Domain Descriptions
Short descriptions were added to the headers of the FDE domain pages, providing an overview of the domain at a glance.
Spatial Domain Updates
The "As of Date" filter was renamed "Results Valid on Date" to make its purpose clearer.
The "Geographic" filter was renamed "Country" to reflect that only countries are displayed.
The “Unit Type” filter options were organized into Admin, FSC Units, and Other Units groups.
The Visualize and Export section now displays the Map as the default selection.

Bug Fixes
Previewing Selected Data Series
In some FDE domains, data couldn’t be previewed in the Visualize Data section after changing the search parameters, unless the data series selection was subsequently modified. Now, you can preview your selected data series regardless of any changes made to the search parameters.
Modifying Date Selections
Users were encountering issues with the date picker, including a bug where mouse movements could unintentionally select a different date than the one that the user had selected. You can now browse and select dates as expected.
▶️ How To Series: Maximizing Screen Real Estate in FDE
In this video, you’ll learn how to collapse the domain selection sidebar and customize sidebar, giving you more room to explore data in FDE.
