September 2022: FDE Version 2
We’re excited about the release of FDE version 2! Here is a look at the biggest changes you will see in the new release.
Updated look
The first thing you probably noticed when you logged into the FDE is the updated look of the platform. Version 2 of the FDE follows the new FEWS NET brand guidelines (except for the logo, which will be applied during the formal brand launch later this year). In addition, the navigation menu has now been moved to the sidebar and the interface is structured in a cleaner way that allows you to easily find what you need.

Home page
The new home page supports your workflows across all domains and can make your use of FDE more efficient. Home page widgets provide the ability to search for and download saved datasets across all domains, access your most used domains and datasets, and quickly see new data series that have been added in your most used domains. The short video below is an introduction to the new home page. (0:36)

Built-in tour
Within the help menu of the refreshed FDE, you have the option to take a brief tour of the platform. This functionality introduces experienced FDE users to the new layout and gives new FDE users a quick overview of how to use the platform. We plan to expand this functionality so that the tour automatically launches when new users log into the platform and to highlight new features when they are released.
All domains listed in navigation
The old Other domain has been split into individual domains so it takes fewer clicks to get the information you need.

Formatted Price and Trade tables
The data preview tables in the the Price and Trade domains have been updated so it is easier to read their crosstab format. Color and line weights have been used to visually separate metadata rows from data rows and header columns from value columns.

More flexible system
The biggest change is one that isn’t visible. The second version of FDE is easier to update and change so that we can more readily provide you with updates and new features, making data in the FDW more accessible and usable. We’re excited about the changes coming soon including even more home page functionality, a new interface for editing saved datasets, built in metadata definitions, and new domains.
